Roman Board games
Board games were very popular with the Romans.
We know this from archaeological finds - nearly every Roman site in Britain has provided evidence in the form of counters and boards.
In the 1990's at Colchester excavations at Stanway unearthed the grave of what could be a doctor - one of the many finds from here was a board game with the counters laid out as if it was ready to be played.
This image is of two young re-enactors playing a reconstruction of this actual gaming board together with replicas of the counters.

In the museums around the UK there are a large number of different gaming boards - often made from stone as shown in the images below
