Roman Footwear

Roman footwear comes in all shapes and sizes. Many preserved examples have been found in the UK – especially at Vindolanda Roman Fort.
Some shoes were made of one piece of leather, but many were built with the upper and soles made of separate pieces of leather,.
The uppers of shoes were quite diverse – some with openwork designs. Wooden clogs were also worn – probably in bath houses.
