Antonine Wall Legionary distance slabs
The Antonine Wall was built between AS 142 and 143 by three legions - the Second Augusta, the Sixth Victrix, and the Twentieth Valeria Victrix.
These legions erected stone slabs on completion of their work - the slabs tell us the length of wall they completed, the emperor and the name of the legion.
These are unique as no similiar slabs are known from any frontier of the Roman Empire
Found at Arniebog, near Westerwood Fort in 1868
The style of carving is similar to that of the craftsmen of The Twentieth Legion.
