Twmbarlwm
(Twyn Barlwm/Twmbarlum)
What started off as a beautiful sunny day ........soon became shrouded in cloud.........
Twmbarlwm is an easy climb from the Abercarn Forest Drive visitor centre where we parked. The site itself is a bit of a mystery and there is some disagreement over its history.
The summit is encircled with a rampart and ditch which probably dated to the Iron Age - this has been re-used by the Normans who turned it into a motte and bailey castle. This motte was a large mound of earth and can still be seen in the eastern corner today.
